IIC Las Vegas final round of practice

I ended up getting more than my fair share of dirt dumped on me by Mr Mccracken (sp) about how many times I had to take apart my car in one day. He says that I have taken apart my car more times in one day than what he has done in a year. I told him that it was because of the spur gear being too small and me not being able to reach the motor. Water off a duck's back.

And it is true. Every time I finish a practice round, I have to change motors. In order to do that I have to take the X-ray top plate off and remove the drivetrain to access the Motor. I still have the NOVAK 411 system installed in my car in hopes to use it in future blog posts. This means that there are wires on top of wires in my car. I would have been easier if I didn't have all those wires but oh well.

It was explained in the drivers meeting. The next two rounds of practice were a little bit more than just practice. Just like in the Summer Sizzler, Scotty Ernst took each racer's best 3 consecutive laptimes and they will use that information to seed the qualifying rounds.

It is my hope that, because of this, I will get in a qualifying heat that will allow me to open up on the track and get some good laptimes in. The will be the best chance to get in a good main since the start of the iiC. I was able to get the A-Main in the Summer Sizzler. Can I do it here? With the 17.5 class having over 60 racers, chances are a little slender.

It was also explained in the drivers meeting that there would be a interesting bump up program in place this year. There are only 9 seats in the A main. The 10th seat will go to the winner of the any of the lower mains with the most laps. That means that if I am in the E main, (ain't no shame in the E main) and I win that main with a laptime that no one else in any of the other mains can beat, that bumps me up to the 10th spot n the A main. Think of it as Christmas at Trackside Hobbies!

Tomorrow starts the first round of Qualifying. I am excited to say the least. My car is now acting very good after Paul Lemieux took another look at it. I was having trouble with it and didn't want to deal with all the drama. Heck I could have tried to figure it out but I needed the track time to practice. It help a bunch because I was able to learn were the fast line is and kind of stick to that line.

Here are my best 3 times per round in my 2 classes

Round Class Time T1 T2 T3
-----------------------------------------------
Round 1 17.5 22 - 5:00 13.040, 13.142, 13.231
Round 2 17.5 22 - 5:05 13.382, 13.095, 13.073

Round 1 13.5 22 - 5:11 12.4, 12.7, 12.8
Round 2 13.5 22 - 5:01 12.647, 12.854, 12.830

As you can see, my 13.5 times are 1 second faster than my 17.5 times. Remember that the 13.5 class is my throw away class. I only entered this class so that I can get the extra track time.

I am pleased with my 17.5 time though. I always feel that I can go faster but as far as what I have, I like. Again, I hope to get in a good heat so that I can open up on the track and get some good laptimes. Just have to take the corners and (as Kevin puts it) "keep the rubber side down"
