Hurricane Series Race 1 @ The Track

This was a very exciting race for me. All went well with the car and the race. The track was fun to drive

I had a long day ahead of me. The track opens at 8am, racing starts at 12pm and we go until we finish. With 70 entries, (the most ever for the start of the hurricane series)I don't plan on getting out of there till about 9pm.

Qualifying rounds were very good. I got used to the track quickly and was able to navigate the turns well. The only issue was that I was slowing down too much to make the corners. I know there is something that I can do to fix that issue.

My first setup for the car wasn't helping me as far as control. I can get the car around the track but it was a little hard to drive because the car was pushing wide in cornering. I did get a lot of practice time before the race so I felt pretty good about the car overall.

There were actually four things that were changed in the car that I think did the most good for handling. I first raised the center of gravity in the rear of the car. The center of gravity is now identical for both the front and the rear of the car.

The second change was to lay down both the front and the rear shocks to the inner most shock tower holes. I made sure to adjust the ride height and camber to better reflect current settings.

Thirdly, as far as camber goes, I did adjust the front and the rear for that slight advantage in steering that I felt that I needed.

Lastly, my motor was so hot, it was frying eggs so I had to gear down to cool the motor and to prevent a BBQ.

Qualifying rounds went so good I ended up 2nd in the B main. Not bad for not knowing the track.

I had another racer (Dean) in front of me in first place at the start of the race. Before the race he stated that he was going to take the first 3 turns very slow to get the feel of how the car was going to go. It was in my best interest to stay on his tail but do not overtake him until the first corner carnage was finished.

Did that work? no. The start tone sounded, I got the first 3 turns out of the way and I was still behind first place. Third place however, must have not gotten the memo. He was pushy and impatient and knocked me into the wall trying to overtake everyone. In the span of 3 seconds, I went from second to last.

I wasn't finished yet! not by a long shot. With a lot of fighting, I was able to get back into 4th place. I was impressed with that until the first 3 racers got tangled in front of me. I was just able to squeak by and take first place. By the time the marshals were able to clean the mess up, I was about a half a lap ahead of everyone.

My heart raced, my hands shook, but in the end, I was able to pull out the B main win! Congrats all around from other racers. Yes, it was a good win indeed.

Next race is in Green bay. Its time to call my dad so he come see it.

Later everyone.
