The second race in the Hurricane series was at Victory RC located in Green Bay Wisconsin. It was about a 2 hour drive to get there and I arrived at 8pm.
First came the setup. Well, fix up actually. I came into Victory's with a car that was broken from the previous Tuesday (same place, same part) This is more than just a little bit frustrating for me. I don't want this to happen during my race. The Idea is to keep an eye on that problem throughout the day and see If I can get it fixed so that I can finish my main.
Nevertheless, the problem was fixed and now all I had to do was to find a setup of the car. A few things should be noted at this time
1. The track was super small. I think that this is the smallest track in all the the series. Track setups are normally tight and turns are impossible if you don't have the correct car setup.
2. Carpet grip was never a problem until I arrived at Victory. The grip was a bit high to begin with and it only went up in time. This made even the best setup fail to turn or navigate the rough waters of the track.
At first, I didn't take the track's high grip into account when setting up the car. I went to the extreme with my camber setup for the car. This felt right at first then the car didn't handle well after the second qualifier. It was then I decided to reverse my setup and go a little less dramatic with my car's settings.
Throughout the qualifying I had notice that the small pin that kept the front right tire in place was slipping out. Before one of my qualifiers, I quickly fixed the issue as was able to race the car well and get a very good time. I had thought that I only had to fix this issue once and I didn't check it again for the main event.
That was the mistake that cost me. I ended up in the B main after 3 qualifying rounds and just before my race was up, I noticed the pin was loose again. I didn't have the time to tear apart my front end again to fix this issue so I was forced to leave it alone and hope that it stayed together for the entire final race. It didn't. I was chasing first place when I hit a wall, After that, my steering was out of wack and I can see the tire of the side of the car that hit the wall was not in its proper position. I broke. I was able to limp my car close enough to the driver's stand to pick it up and turn it off. Oh well, another race done.
Much love to my dad who made the trip from the U.P. to see me. It was good seeing him and sharing stories of whats been happening in the past year. He makes the trip to Victory RC every year so as long as there a hurricane series, I'll always get to see my dad. :) so in all, not a bad day at the track.
